Round Rock Hosts Delegation from Argentina Led by Mayor Diego Valenzuela to Share Economic Development Strategies
The City of Round Rock and the Round Rock Chamber recently hosted Mayor Diego Valenzuela of Tres de Febrero, Argentina, along with two members of his municipal team, during their visit to Central Texas. The visit was part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a long-running exchange initiative designed to foster citizen-to-citizen diplomacy and global dialogue among emerging leaders.
Mayor Valenzuela’s delegation visited Round Rock to explore “Municipal and State-Level Approaches to Attracting Investment in the United States.” During their time in the city, they engaged in discussions with Round Rock officials and representatives from the Round Rock Chamber about the city’s strategic efforts to build a distinct economic identity separate from Austin.
The visit highlighted Round Rock’s success in attracting major employers, including Dell Technologies and Kalahari Resorts, through intentional economic development policies and strong public-private collaboration. The Round Rock Chamber played a key role in presenting how the city’s proactive approach to infrastructure investment, workforce development, and business retention has laid the foundation for sustainable growth.
The IVLP, which has brought thousands of international professionals to the U.S. since shortly after World War II. The program’s goal is to create meaningful exchanges between U.S. communities and international leaders across sectors including government, nonprofit, journalism, and academia.
The Round Rock stop was part of a larger itinerary in the Austin area and marked an important recognition of the city’s development model. The visit not only offered insight into Round Rock’s economic success but also fostered cultural exchange and strengthened international ties.
Round Rock continues to stand out as a model for cities aiming to attract investment and support business innovation while maintaining a strong sense of local identity.
