Round Rock Chamber Receives $20,000 Donation from Big Boy Hester Annual Fishing Trip Fundraiser
The Round Rock Chamber is thrilled to announce the receipt of a generous $20,000 donation from the proceeds of the iconic Big Boy Hester Annual Fishing Trip fundraiser. This remarkable event, which has become a beloved tradition in the Round Rock community, continues to make a significant impact.
Since its inception in 1987, Big Boy’s Fishing Trip has raised more than $300,000, benefiting both the Round Rock Chamber and the YMCA. This success is largely due to the dedication of the fishermen and the invaluable partnership with R Bank.
Gail “Big Boy” Hester, who opened his auto repair shop 63 years ago at the age of 22, has been a pivotal figure in the Round Rock community, an advocate for small businesses and even played a crucial role in bringing the Round Rock Express to the area. It is because of his love of baseball and dedication to the community that the City of Round Rock unveiled the newly renamed Big Boy Hester Family Field at the reopening of Memorial Park on July 20.
His contributions to the community were also recognized by the City of Round Rock by awarding Big Boy with the Local Legend award in 2002, and the Chamber honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. Fondly known as the Unofficial Mayor of Round Rock, Big Boy’s legacy continues to inspire and drive community efforts.
The Round Rock Chamber extends heartfelt thanks to Big Boy Hester, R Bank, the YMCA, and all the dedicated fishermen who participate annually. Their unwavering support and commitment have greatly enriched the Chamber and the entire business community. The Chamber is a better organization thanks to their generous contributions and enduring dedication.
