Texas State University Round Rock Campus Celebrates New Weather Station

On October 9th, Texas State University Round Rock Campus celebrated Texas State University’s first-ever Round Rock campus weather station.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies has installed a research-grade weather station on the Texas State Round Rock campus. The 10-meter tower was built with the Texas Water Development Board’s TexMesonet, a statewide network of similar stations. The station will observe air temperature, wind, humidity & dew point, pressure, solar radiation, rainfall, and soil conditions every five minutes for geography teaching and research.

The station was installed the week of July 10 by TXST faculty, grad students, and alumni. This new resource will provide hands-on learning opportunities, enhance local weather awareness, and create a valuable archive of environmental data that will benefit Texas State University and the surrounding communities for years to come.

The station was made possible through partnerships with Texas State University and the following initiatives/organizations:

  • The STEM-For-All Partnership provided federal funding secured by U.S. Representative John Carter
  • Texas Water Development Board
