National Disability Employment Awareness Spotlight: Project SEARCH

In recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’d like to spotlight Project SEARCH at Ascension Texas, a yearlong internship, in partnership with Round Rock ISD’s program for young adults with intellectual disabilities, to develop vocational skills in a business setting, while building a solid foundation of professional experience.
Participants rotate through different departments like Environmental Services, Sterilization, and Food Services. At the end of the year, they apply for jobs and interview for positions at Ascension medical campuses. Staff also work with local partners like H-E-B and Kalahari to ensure all participants find meaningful employment following the program.
The Round Rock Chamber recognizes the importance of business-led initiatives that create opportunities for students and adults with disabilities to succeed in the workforce. By partnering with local employers, educators, and community organizations, the Chamber helps promote inclusive workforce development programs and career pathways that empower individuals of all abilities to thrive. These efforts strengthen Round Rock’s economy while fostering a more inclusive and equitable business community.
