Leadership Round Rock Project Benefits Central Texas Table of Grace
The mission of Leadership Round Rock (LRR) is to develop leadership skills in individuals and to promote awareness of issues and opportunities that impact Round Rock. Each year, the LRR will choose a non-profit organization and will work towards a project for the organization. This has ranged from fundraising to the construction of new facilities and other activities.
For the 2021 LRR class, the class decided to support Central Texas Table of Grace, an organization that exists to provide emergency shelter services to the children and youth in the foster care system.
Since 2014 Central Texas Table of Grace has operated a temporary shelter for displaced foster children between the ages of 6-17. Once these children turn 18, unfortunately they age out of the resources available through the foster system. In order to combat this, Central Texas Table of Grace created their Grace 365 Supervised Independent Living program for kids 18-21 who have aged out of the foster system. The ultimate goal of the program is to convert the existing building into a community center to provide meals a few times a week, life skills classes, host volunteers, employee / volunteer training, host events for foster youth, and storage.
Due to the challenges of COVID-19, the class of 2021 had to develop creative ways in order to fundraise for the program. Originally a dodge ball tournament was planned, which then had to pivot to a drive through fund drive. Thanks to the effort of this event and individual fundraising efforts from the class, LRR 2021 raised $12,000 to support the Grace 365 program. The class was finally able to deliver the funds at an event in March 2022.
The Round Rock Chamber congratulates the class of LRR 2021 on their efforts and for a successful outcome of their class project.
