Chamber Hosts RRISD Educator for 2025 RRISD Teacher Externship Program

Each year, the Round Rock Chamber, Round Rock ISD (RRISD), and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) team up to provide externship experiences for RRISD teachers to work directly with local businesses during the summer. The program’s goal is to match educators with employers in the teacher’s subject matter or area of interest, and includes a 5-day, onsite job shadow experience.

Educators earn professional development hours and gain current, real-world experience. Educators must share insights about their externship with students and other educators via lesson plans. This summer, the program worked with more than 60 RRISD educators and 40 Round Rock and Austin-area businesses.

The Chamber had the privilege of hosting Ashley Kemp, an English teacher at Round Rock High School, during the week of July 14-18 to share more about how the Chamber’s functions as an economic generator for the Round Rock community, and its dedication to improving quality of life and creating new opportunities for businesses, individuals, and families.

Kemp’s externship with the Chamber included:

  • Participation in our councils, such as Business Climate Council, to learn about our advocacy initiatives
  • Joining us for a Business After Hours to network with members and learn about different businesses in the community
  • Joining an Ambassador monthly meeting to learn about their efforts to welcome new members to the Chamber and their assistance in promoting our services
  • Participation in other local organizations, such as the Rotary Club of Round Rock and Kiwanis Club of Round Rock, to learn about other organizations that work to continue to make Round Rock a great place to live and work

The Chamber, alongside numerous other local businesses, is proud to host an outstanding RRISD educator like Ms. Kemp and grow connections with our rising generation of workers.
