Ambassador Spotlight: Sandra Alton
The Round Rock Chamber Ambassador Program helps support the chamber’s mission by ensuring that new investors are welcomed to the chamber family properly and they play an important role in ribbon cutting events. This month’s Ambassador Spotlight is on Sandra Alton.
Sandra was born in Chicago, Illinois, but was not there long. Her mom, a native of Puerto Rico, hated the cold weather! Leaving Chicago, they moved to Mexico City where she lived until she was ten before returning to the states and residing in California where most of her family lived.
Escaping the rat race of southern California, Sandra and her husband Joe moved here from San Diego in 1992 with hopes and plans that Joe would play music professionally and Sandra would jump into the food and beverage industry. It didn’t take long for Joe to get plugged into the music scene and Sandra accepted a position as a property manager in the Round Rock area.
In 1995, Sandra had the opportunity to move her career in a different direction. She accepted an administrative position with a major van line and was quickly moved into business development. She has extensive training in her field with hundreds of hours of education and instruction.
During the recession, Sandra and Joe experienced the devastating loss of their son Mathew, and soon after, Sandra lost her job. Without a doubt, it was exceedingly difficult for her to recover. After looking for a job for an entire year, she convinced Joe to let her open a café. This had been a long-lived dream and she was able to grieve through her focus on a new beginning. Yes, she opened the café during the recession, naming it The Recession Café and having the motto, “honestly good food, with an honest price!”. She also had the opportunity to write a monthly cooking column for Austin Faith & Family magazine, which was titled Just a Good Cook! Unfortunately, In January of 2012 she was forced to close. With all this being said, she has no regret, and she will always keep an eye open for another opportunity.
Sandra has been with Central Transportation Systems, an agent for United Van Lines, since February of 2013. Sandra helps her clients put one of the most daunting tasks aside when selling or buying a home…moving! She saves you the headaches that come with moving across town, out of the state, or even out of the country. Although she is one of the best residential moving consultants in the area, she is also able to assist you with all your office and industrial relocation needs.
Sandra is very proud of serving as a Round Rock Chamber Ambassador. She enjoys networking while meeting all the amazing people and learning about their businesses in our community.
