Summer Learning in Round Rock: Engaging Programs to Keep Young Minds Active
As summer begins families have access to enriching programs designed to keep children engaged, learning and having fun. The Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) and the City of Round Rock offer a variety of initiatives to support students’ academic growth and foster a love for reading during the summer months.
RRISD Elementary Summer Learning Programs
RRISD’s Elementary Summer Learning programs provide targeted instruction to help students maintain and enhance their academic skills.
LAUNCH Program for Grades 3-4
From July 9 to 25, 2025, students in grades 3 and 4 who require accelerated instruction based on STAAR scores are invited to participate in the LAUNCH program. This no-cost initiative offers a hands-on curriculum focused on math and literacy. Classes run from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Berkman Arts Integration Academy, Bluebonnet Elementary School, and Live Oak Elementary School. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily, and students are expected to bring their district-issued Chromebooks.
Round Rock ISD Summer Camps
RRISD offers a variety of summer camps catering to diverse interests, including STEM, arts, theater, sports, test preparation, robotics, cooking, math, and writing. These camps are available in both half-day and full-day formats, with virtual options also provided. The camps run across multiple weeks: June 2-5, June 9-12, June 16-19, July 14-17, and July 21-24, and June 2 – August 1.
Round Rock Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge
The Round Rock Public Library invites readers of all ages to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge from June 2 to July 31, 2025. Participants can log their reading minutes through the ReadSquared online portal. For every 300 points logged, readers earn a Book Buck or Prize Voucher, with the opportunity to claim up to five prizes. Starting June 9, children and teens can redeem their Book Bucks at the Summer Reading Store on the library’s second floor, while adults can exchange Prize Vouchers on the third floor. You don’t need to have a Round Rock Public Library card to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
City of Round Rock Summer Camps
The City of Round Rock’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a diverse lineup of summer camps for 2025, catering to children and teens with various interests. Registration opened on March 4, 2025, and families can explore options ranging from traditional day camps to specialized programs. Highlights include the Duo Quest Camp, which combines STEAM-based instruction with classic camp activities like arts and crafts, sports, and swimming. Traditional camps such as Kapers and Kids and Rockin’ R provide a mix of indoor and outdoor games, weekly field trips, and creative projects. For older youth, the Travel Adventure Camp offers daily excursions to destinations like theme parks and state parks.
