Round Rock Ranked Top 25 ‘2026 Best Cities to Live in America’

Round Rock is once again gaining national attention after securing the No. 24 spot on Niche’s 2026 Best Cities to Live in America list, making it the only Central Texas city to earn a place on the ranking.

Niche grades cities based on 15 metrics, including crime, public schools, cost of living, job opportunities and local amenities. Each city was ranked using data from the U.S Census, FBI, Bureau of Labor Statistics, CDC and more. With a No. 24 ranking, Round Rock scored an overall Niche grade of A. Specifically, Round Rock was praised for its public schools, jobs and family friendly environment. Round Rock’s strong performance in these categories reflects many of the qualities residents cite as reasons for calling the city home. From our extensive park system and community events to diverse housing options and a thriving business community, Round Rock continues to distinguish itself as a city that offers both opportunity and quality of life.

Austin, meanwhile, posted different results. While the Live Music Capital earned high marks for nightlife and diversity, it scored lower in affordability and housing. The state capital also received an A- in family-friendliness and commute, along with B+ grades in public schools, jobs, outdoor activities, weather, and health and fitness. Austin was also ranked the No. 15 best city for young professionals in America.

One resident shared, “Since moving to Round Rock, TX a year ago, I have never looked at moving to any other place. Its diverse population, recreational areas, restaurants, shopping centers, career opportunities and more make this city an amazing place to live. Round Rock has the best of both worlds: a relaxed suburban environment with plenty of places to explore for those seeking adventure. There is never a dull moment here.”

As Round Rock continues to grow, national recognition like this highlights the city’s ability to balance expansion with a high quality of life. The strong schools, robust job market, family-friendly atmosphere and thriving business community continue to make it one of the most desirable places to live in Central Texas and beyond.
