Round Rock Chamber Board Unanimously Approves Endorsement of the ACC $770M Bond Election
The Round Rock Chamber Board of Directors voted and unanimously approved an endorsement of Austin Community College’s $770 million bond election during its regular board meeting on September 22.
Austin Community College (ACC) is the largest trainer of the Central Texas workforce, serving approximately 70,000 students each year, and it is a critical partner to the Round Rock business community in meeting the growing demands for skilled talent.
ABOUT THE BOND:
The Austin Community College Board of Trustees recently approved a $770 million general obligation bond for the November 2022 ballot that, if approved by voters, will add improvements to each of the colleges 11 campuses and directly support projects in communities across Central Texas to expand workforce training capacity for high-demand fields such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing and other skilled trades.
The proposed bond issuance would also allocate funds to construct, renovate, improve, and equip college buildings district-wide for student support services such as onsite childcare and student health services.
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT TAXES?
Affordability remains a primary concern for the college as it issues the 2022 bond proposal. If approved by voters, the bond will not result in an increase to ACC’s Property Tax Rate.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ROUND ROCK?
The $770 million bond proposal allocates $200 million to the North Region of which $75 million is allocated for the ACC Round Rock campus.
Projects in Round Rock will focus on increased instructional programs for:
- nursing and health sciences;
- advanced manufacturing, and;
- skilled trades such as building construction; heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology; automotive technology, and welding.
In addition, the Round Rock Campus would benefit from the expansion of infrastructure such as the central utility plant, parking and roads.
The proposed budget allocates $75 million for new buildings and renovations across the campus resulting in:
- 85,000 square feet of new buildings
- 40% increased capacity for applied technologies
- 20% increased capacity for health sciences
