HVAC and Plumbing Training Classes Offer Completion in Four Months

The chamber led the charge in creating the Round Rock accelerated certification program in order to help alleviate the workforce shortage issues being experienced by members of the local business community. These programs have the dual purpose of helping fill the talent pipeline for highly needed positions and increasing the household income for those looking to improve their lives.

The classes run year round and on a first-come, first-served basis. The following classes are forming now:

HVAC Class: March 3, 2020 to July 7, 2020 on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Classes break during holidays.

Plumbing Class: March 10, 2020 to July 9, 2020 on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Classes break during holidays.

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area is funding 100% of the tuition for those who qualify. For more information on tuition funding, contact Pamela Zamudio, talent development specialist at 512.244.2207 x 1060 or John Garcia, youth talent development specialist at 512.244.2207 x 1060.

There are no academic requirements (no prerequisites including GED) and enrollment is open to the public. For more information on the programs and how to register for the HVAC and plumbing courses, contact Luis Castillo, luis.castillo@austincc.edu or 512.223.7525.

In 2017, the chamber partnered with Austin Community College (ACC) and Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) to develop and implement accelerated certification programs for in-demand jobs in the skilled trades industries of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing.

As part of the partnership, ACC furnishes the curriculum, instructors, and equipment for the classes, RRISD provides the facility, and the chamber recruits companies to interview participants for post-certification hiring. The classes are specifically geared toward un- and underemployed adults, but are also open to current RRISD students and staff members.
