Chamber, Round Rock ISD Council of PTAs Host Candidate Forum

The Round Rock ISD Council of PTAs and Round Rock Chamber were pleased to host a forum event for candidates running for four positions on the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees in the upcoming election on November 3, 2026.

The public forum, held on Tuesday, October 13 at the Round Rock Chamber, was moderated by Claire Shoop, editor of the Round Rock and Pflugerville/Hutto editions of Community Impact and featured seven of the nine candidates who will appear on the ballot. Gregory Andrew, candidate for Place 3, did not participate in the forum, and incumbent Alicia Markum, who is running unopposed for Place 4, also did not participate.

In preparation for the event, members of the community were given the opportunity to submit questions and topics of interest through a public survey that was released on September 11th and closed on October 2nd. The questions generated through the public survey were grouped by topic and distilled into 20 high-impact questions that fell within one of the seven topics:

  • Curriculum Strategy & Student Success
  • Educator Employment & Retention Efforts
  • Safety in Schools
  • Workforce Readiness & Economic Development
  • Finances, Budget & Debt Servicing
  • Role & Outcomes of the School Board
  • Needs & Resources for Families & Community Partners

Candidates were not provided the specific questions ahead of time, as is common practice for non-partisan forums. Questions were drawn from a fishbowl at random; not all questions in the bowl were used during the forum. Each candidate participating was asked 6 total questions:

  • Why are you running? (90 sec.)
  • Four questions randomly selected from the 20 questions (90 sec. per question)
  • Closing Remarks (60 sec.)

Forum attendees were also provided links to interviews and background information provided by the candidates, which you can access here.

The video provided below is a recording of the live event. The captions were automatically generated and checked for accuracy where audio quality allowed, and the video was edited only to shorten transition periods between speakers.

The statements and opinions expressed by the candidates are their own and are not verified or endorsed by the Round Rock Chamber, RRISD Council of PTAs, or Community Impact.
