Round Rock, Texas – The Round Rock Chamber and the City of Round Rock honored former state representative, Larry Gonzales at its Power Lunch today which featured an update on the results of the 86th Legislative Session. As the State Representative for the City of Round Rock, the Honorable Gonzales authored and passed legislation helping to make possible the Round Rock Sports Center and the Kalahari Resorts and Conference Center.
Gonzales was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2010. He served on the powerful House Appropriations Committee three times, twice serving as Subcommittee Chairman and as a budget conference, making him one of only five House members to write the final version of the 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 state budgets.
“We may never know the full impact of Larry’s efforts at the Texas Capitol because much of his work was done behind the scenes,” said Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan. “Larry served us with selflessness, compassion, and fairness. He was instrumental in influencing legislation that allowed the City and the State of Texas to benefit greatly from the economic vibrance that will be created by Kalahari Resorts locating in Round Rock. For that, Round Rock is forever indebted to him.”
Gonzales began his career as an employee of the legislature in 1993 and retired in June 2018. During this term, he was appointment by the Speaker of the House to serve as Chairman of the Sunset Advisory Commission. In that role, Chairman Gonzales oversaw the critical restructuring of twenty-four state agencies to ensure their stated mission was being met effectively and efficiently.
“Larry Gonzales was always a great advocate for issues relating to our community and all of House District 52,” said David Hays, the chamber’s board chair. “The business climate we enjoy today was helped along by his commonsense approach to problem solving at the state level.”
The chamber presented Gonzales with an award in recognition of his contributions to the city. Mayor Morgan commemorated the honor by issuing a special proclamation of thanks to Gonzales.
