Round Rock Chamber Announces Priorities for 2019

Economic-generation mission continues to drive work

Round Rock, Texas– The Round Rock Chamber revealed its top priorities for 2019 and presented a look back at its 2018 accomplishments during its December Power Lunch. The chamber has aggressively pursued its mission of leading economic generation in Round Rock and focused on delivering substantial impact through its eight pillars of economic generation.

The chamber’s top priorities for 2019 are to:

  • implement a business retention and expansion (BRE) marketing-outreach strategy
  • generate six economic development project wins
  • initiate a community workforce assessment
  • execute an apprenticeship strategy
  • produce a chamber awareness campaign

“Our priorities for 2019 were created to deliver meaningful and measurable results for our investors in areas of need,” said Mike Odom, the chamber’s president and CEO. “They are designed in coordination with our economic-generation mission and where we can affect positive outcomes.”

Under the guidance of its board of directors, stakeholders, partners, and high-performing staff, the chamber was able to produce an impressive array of impactful results in 2018. They include:

  • securing five economic development wins representing over 200 jobs and approximately $30 million in capital investment
  • completing six business attraction trips domestically and internationally
  • incorporating GIS intelligence components on its website including real-time updates to demographicstalent pool, and community profile data
  • accomplishing 135 BRE visits
  • enhancing its BRE marketing efforts by creating a unique mark, refining the BRE webpage, and developing a BRE-specific Facebook page
  • launching the Momentum 4 campaign
  • promoting the skilled trades image campaign in partnership with Round Rock Independent School District
  • partnering with Austin Community College and Round Rock Independent School District to implement accelerated certification classes in HVAC and plumbing resulting in fifty-four adults receiving pre-apprentice certification
  • conducting an apprenticeship research issue brief
  • hosting seventy-five educators in the summer externship program
  • researching entrepreneurial funding alternatives in partnership with Texas State – Round Rock
  • celebrating one year of 1 Million Cups Round Rock
  • collaborating with SCORE Austin in the second year of the Entrepreneurship Round Rock program
  • creating a LinkedIn page for local entrepreneurs
  • leading the local option alcohol election to a city vote and passage
  • capturing the 2018 Chamber of the Year award by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives
  • earning the Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for the Economic Impact Analysis of Public-Private Program Funding – Momentum from the International Economic Development Council
  • receiving the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives’ Grand Award for Excellence in Communications / Digital Marketing (Skilled Trades Image Campaign)
  • obtaining the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives’  Award of Excellence in Communications / Digital Marketing (PRO Round Rock Microsites)
