Round Rock Chamber Announces Economic Development Award

Business Facilities Honors Chamber with Award for Deal of the Year

Round Rock, Texas – The Round Rock Chamber announced today that it has received a national award for the 2017 Economic Development Deal of the Year. The honor, which was awarded by Business Facilities, recognizes the chamber’s economic development team for the United Parcel Service (UPS) distribution center agreement. Business Facilities is a full-service media brand which highlights area economic development and site selection news from around the world.

As part of its business attraction efforts, the chamber targets industries and projects to help build and support a diversified community. In 2015, Round Rock began its efforts to attract the world’s largest package delivery and provider of supply chain management solutions, UPS. The global giant is currently building a new distribution facility on approximately fifty acres near S.H. 45 and A.W. Grimes Boulevard in Round Rock and will create several hundred employment opportunities in Round Rock over the next five year with a capital investment estimated at $70 million.

“This recognition is notable because there were only thirteen projects that received awards from across the entire nation,” said Ben White, the chamber’s vice president of economic development. “We had a number of hurdles to overcome with this project which required innovation, creativity, and collaboration with the city and with the Austin Chamber, so it is nice to be recognized for our efforts. This is a great example of an economic-generation win that creates jobs, capital investment, and greater household income.”

The expansion into Round Rock is expected to provide additional operating capacity for UPS in the greater Austin area, fortify its existing distribution network, and accommodate future growth in Central Texas. The new regional distribution center is expected to open at the end of 2018.
