ROUND ROCK, Texas — Imagine for a moment if you will, a hot summer’s day in June. The kids are on vacation for the summer and you’ve got the whole family in tow. You’re looking for something to do because you’re bored and hot, and then you realize, hey wait, there’s a water resort near me!
That’s exactly what the city of Round Rock has proposed. The Kalahari Resorts have chosen the city of Round Rock as their newest location for their family resort and convention center. With its close proximity to the Dell Diamond and Old Settlers Park, Kalahari resorts plans to move in just across highway 79 from two of Round Rock’s more well-established venues. Both venues together already draw more than a million visitors annually.
The African-themed resort claims it will offer well-appointed guest rooms, full-service amenities, fully equipped fitness centers, on-site restaurants, unique retail shops and state-of-the-art conference centers.
The city of Round Rock says they expect the resort to open in the year 2020 and says it expects the city council to vote on a ‘memorandum of understanding’ next week. After which negotiations on incentives are expected to continue. The zoning and development changes could take up to nine months to process.
