Individuals interested in a career in HVAC or plumbing can now register for one of the new programs set to begin mid-October and November, respectively.
The programs are the result of a partnership between Round Rock ISD, Austin Community College (ACC) and the Round Rock Chamber and were developed to give participants the opportunity to become certified and to increase the number of skilled professionals in Central Texas.
“This is an exciting time for the community and students in Round Rock, ” said Sheri Bonds, director of career and technical education. “The programs provide our community the unique opportunity to get the certification they need to pursue a career in these respective fields and serve as a prime example of what can be accomplished when industry and public education collaborate.”
As part of the agreement, RRISD will supply the building and supply maintenance and facility upgrades as part of the agreement. ACC’s Continuing Education Workforce Development Department will provide college-level instructors, curriculum and training for the program. ACC will also enhance the facility for the needs of the program. The Round Rock Chamber will assist both RRISD and ACC with internship placement, recruitment for the program and serve as a liaison with city officials regarding permit processes.
The HVAC program will begin on October 16, continuing through February 19. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The plumbing program will begin on November 2, with the last class scheduled for February 24. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
