By the end of the first quarter of 2018, California-based Singulex Corp, an immunodiagnostics company, plans to relocate to Round Rock. The new facility will be called Veridia Diagnostics and will be located in a 36,000 square foot facility at 106 Old Settlers Blvd., Round Rock.

Vice President of Marketing Jessica McCarthy said the facility will initially house roughly 100 employees, some of which will relocate from the company’s California operations and some of which will be recruits from Central Texas.

The size of the facility will allow the company space to grow and expand when necessary.

President and CEO Guido Baechler said Round Rock was the best fit for his company because of its high quality of life, strong public education and affordable housing.

“Relocating also provides us the opportunity to grow our clinical lab business which in turn will create more employment opportunities in the Round Rock area,” he said in a statement.

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said the company’s move will add to the city’s growing portfolio of companies within the bioscience industry.

“They are an excellent addition to our growing bioscience industry and we will do our part in continuing to foster a business climate that helps to propel economic growth across the state,” Morgan said.

Singulex develops the Sgx Clarity System, which is a fully-automated in vitro diagnostics platform. The company is also working to develop tactics to detect and rule out cardiac, infectious and inflammatory diseases.

The clinical lab, previously located in Alameda, California, has been open since 2010. McCarthy said it currently has the capacity to perform roughly 170 different tests. This ability will grow with greater space in Round Rock.

“[The move] afforded us an opportunity to expand in a location that is business friendly and in a place where real estate is much more affordable than Northern California,” McCarthy said.
